On the celebration occasion of the two hundred years since the Greek Revolution of 1821, the French Institute of Greece in Larissa and the Antiquities Ephorate of Larissa - Diachronic Museum of Larissa announce their collaboration, which will be implemented with a joint presentation at the Diachronic Museum of Larissa, as well as with parallel events.

The basis of the joint action is the digital exhibition "For Greece by love!" 1821.ifg.gr, an exhibition on the Greek Revolution of 1821, in collaboration with the National Library of France (BNF) and its journalistic website RetroNews. This exhibition is held with the support of the Region of Thessaly and is connected with the wider tribute of the Diachronic Museum to the Revolution of '21, entitled "The Return of the Muses". The Temporary Exhibition will open on July the 13th, at 20.00, in the presence of the Educational Attaché of the French Embassy and Director of the French Institute of Greece Mr. Patrick Comoy.

The exhibition presents the Greek revolution from the point of view of France. For the presentation in Larissa, excerpts were chosen that present the Modern Greek Enlightenment, in which the role of Thessalian scholars was, as is well known, decisive, and at the same time the influences of the French intellectual creation, which was at the forefront at that time, are presented. As concrete examples are used French editions of the era of the revolution dealing with Thessaly, a loan from the Collection of Nikos Papatheodoros, as well as the library of the most famous Thessalian merchant of the time, George Schwartz, with a significant presence of works of the French Enlightenment, loan of the family of Efthymios and Charalambos Doganis. The exhibition will last until December 30, 2021 and will be combined with parallel events and educational programs in collaboration with the Regional Directorate of Education.
