On Saturday, January 28, 2023, the opening of the periodic exhibition "Discovering the ancient theater" took place at the Diachronic Museum of Larissa.
The exhibition is structured in four sections: "Traces of the ancient theater", "The stories of the ancient drama", "Theatrical performance" and "The ancient theater in modern Greece".
The thematic sections of the exhibition are framed by interactive applications, audio documents, casts of ancient objects, replicas of ancient musical instruments, as well as rich photographic and observational material.

The exhibition was enriched by archeological exhibits of the Diachronic Museum of Larissa related to the ancient theater and the cult of Dionysus. Also presented are photographic material and a model of the 1st Ancient Theater of Larissa, whose citizens had a special love for the theater, as shown by the two ancient theaters of the city and the philological testimonies.
Special color and vitality are given to the exhibition by theatrical costumes of emblematic performances of tragedies of the Thessalian Theater that willingly provided to the exhibition, highlighting its contribution to the modern performance of ancient drama.

The exhibition was designed and implemented by the Department of Educational Programs and Communication of the Directorate of Archaeological Museums, Exhibitions and Educational Programs of the Ministry of Culture and Sports, with a first presentation in Athens, at the Paul and Alexandra Kanellopoulou Museum.
The exhibition at the Diachronic Museum of Larissa was curated by archaeologists from the Antiquities Ephorate of Larisa, Giorgos Toufexis, Irini Rossiou and Asimina Tsiaka.
