The wooden sculptures of Costas Vrettos are a result of the ecological disaster caused by the great fires in North Evia in August 2021. The black burnt trunks and branches of trees are transformed with the magical power of art into mourners' dances as archetypes of ancient tragedy, forms who scream, protest and mutely criticize the absurd actions of humans, become again birds and mammals trying to be reborn from their ashes, a unique combination of an animistic and a deeply human gaze.
As a permanent resident of Northern Evia, Kostas Vrettos conveys with shocking immediacy the experience of ecological destruction, in order to awaken and reflect, having nature as the driving force and canvas of his creation.
The sculptures are hosted in the gardens and in the interiors of the Diachronic Museum of Larissa.
Exhibition duration: July-September 2023.
Entry is free.
